Dan Schoenbrun - Bio
Dan Schoenbrun is the co-founder and co-creator of The Eyeslicer, a new production company and variety TV series with a mission of connecting provocative filmmakers with new audiences. He recently produced and curated collective:unconscious, a collaborative feature in which five of NYC’s most acclaimed filmmakers adapted each other’s dreams for the screen. In 2016, collective:unconscious became the first ever omnibus film to premiere in Competition at SXSW, and was praised by Rolling Stone as, "unlike anything you've ever seen with your eyes open." After playing dozens of festivals around the world, collective:unconscious was released for free online in August 2016, and has since been watched over 275,000 times. Dan also currently writes "Continue Watching," a biweekly column for FILMMAKER Magazine covering the changing ways in which we discover and consume art. Previously, he worked as the Senior Film Outreach Lead at Kickstarter, where he helped independent filmmakers raise over $14mm for new projects, and consulted on many of the largest crowdfunding film projects in history, includingMystery Science Theater 3000, The Bill Nye Documentary, Chuck Palahniuk's Lullaby, For the Love of Spock, and The Frank Zappa Documentary. Before joining Kickstarter, Dan worked as the Associate Director of Programming at IFP (our country's oldest and largest filmmaker support organization), and as the Associate Editor of FILMMAKER Magazine. Dan has spoken about filmmaking, audience engagement and distribution at dozens of film festivals worldwide , including at Cannes, the Berlinale, Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, NYFF, and TIFF. His own work as a director has screened at places like BAMcinemaFest, the Maryland Film Festival, and Cucalorus.
